Preventing Damage from Disasters

After the 2021 earthquake, Hand to Hand for Haiti started a project to rebuild houses using traditional techniques and local materials. Homeowners contribute of money, materials or sweat equity to the renovations. The design uses homemade wall panels that incorporate sand and rocks to help strengthen them. A small group of community leaders manage the project. The project is scalable. We started with one house, and when we have $1200-$1500 in donations the leaders identify a family that is ready to participate in the program.
